With a fourth place for Erik van Loon and Wouter Rosegaar and an eighth place for Anja van Loon and Floor Maten, the final rally of the season was successful. The Dubai Baja was the last rally of the season and they close out the year with a good feeling.
For Erik, this rally was confirmation of what’s possible when everything goes well. “It went great, we just couldn’t beat the young guys. But we had no problems today,” he says enthusiastically. “The car was excellent and Wouter navigated flawlessly again.” The contrast with earlier rallies this season couldn’t be greater. Without technical setbacks, Erik was right in the fight for the prizes and showed that the speed is definitely there. Erik and Wouter rewarded the strong rally with ninth position overall and fourth place in the SSV classification.
Anja also drove a strong and trouble-free stage together with navigator Floor Maten. “It went really well today. Great driving, no issues and Floor did brilliantly again,” she says satisfied about the final day. They finished eighth in the SSV category, an impressive achievement despite yesterday’s problems.
The Dubai Baja was the final official rally of the season. “I want to thank South Racing for the car,” said Erik. “Of course also our sponsors and partners, their support is worth its weight in gold. I’m going to do an event in Morocco later this year that Mitchel van den Brink is organizing. But that’s mainly just fun driving with rally friends, I’m really looking forward to it.” Erik and Anja are still busy with plans for next year.
