Anja van Loon, Ben, and Jan van de Laar start 48h-Chrono with challenges

The 48-hour stage started well for Anja van Loon and her brothers, Ben and Jan van de Laar. Competing in their Iveco truck, they began the second stage of the Dakar Rally strongly, spending a significant amount of time in the top five. However, they suffered a flat tire, which they were able to change at the remote service point. There, it became clear that additional repairs were needed. After Team De Rooy carried out the necessary fixes, they were able to continue and arrived at their overnight camp.

After the first 491 kilometers of the stage, which spans a total of 967 kilometers, the sister and brothers were in 11th place—a solid performance considering they lost over an hour due to repairs. At the 169-kilometer service point, it was discovered that a hub seal was damaged. The mechanics replaced it, allowing them to resume the stage, which they completed in a steady fashion.

Tomorrow, the second stage continues. Anja, Jan, and Ben still have 476 kilometers to go before the finish, passing through various types of terrain. Tonight, they will prepare their truck for the remainder of the stage and then spend the night in their tents under the desert’s starry sky. On to tomorrow!
