After his role in the third stage, the roll cage of the Dacia Sandrider appeared to be damaged with Sébastien Loeb. One day after Carlos Sainz, the next title candidate had to give up in the Dakar Rally.
Loeb was in his ninth Dakar, the Frenchman was determined to win this edition. He failed again. He had already come to a standstill earlier in this rally due to technical problems and his somersault yesterday caused damage to the roll cage. As a result, the organization decided to send him home.
His team, Dacia, did not agree with that decision and has filed an appeal. However, Loeb is not allowed to start in the fourth stage, so that has no effect on the final result.
