Kees Koolen leads the veterans in ADDC

Kees Koolen delivered an impressive performance during the second stage of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge (ADDC). The experienced Dutch rally rider finished 22nd overall and, after two days, leads the standings in the veterans’ category, which includes riders over 45 years old. Out of the 55 motorcycles in the competition, eight belong to this category. Moreover, Koolen is the oldest participant in the field, but he is clearly not letting age slow him down.

Grueling Stage Through the Dunes

The second stage of the ADDC took the riders through a 228-kilometer route, with the first half of the day characterized by massive dunes. While many believed that the toughest section was behind them after the refueling stop midway, the reality proved otherwise. The second part of the stage consisted of smaller dunes with extremely soft sand, adding to the exhaustion for the competitors.

Physical Challenge

According to Koolen, fatigue was evident among all riders at the finish. However, thanks to his experience and perseverance, he managed to maintain his pace until the end—except for a brief moment. Remarkably, he did not get stuck in the treacherous sand at any point during the stage, which is an achievement in itself given the demanding conditions.

With this strong performance, Kees Koolen proves that age is no barrier in the world of rally racing. His lead in the veterans’ category highlights his determination and strategic insight, making him a formidable competitor for the upcoming stages of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.
