Memo Tours, the rally (service) team led by Bennie and Monique Migchelbrink, has been a mainstay in the rally raid world for over 31 years. Known for their consistent presence at around eight rallies or raids each year — including ten Dakar Rally appearances — the team is a household name in the off-road motorsport scene. In 2026, Memo Tours will return to the Africa Eco Race, this time with no fewer than six motorcycle riders.
A new chapter: shifting focus to the Africa Eco Race
Two years ago, Memo Tours participated in the Africa Eco Race on a smaller scale to get a feel for the event and its organization. That first taste left a strong impression: the rally proved to be well-organized, featured stunning routes, and fostered a social and friendly atmosphere among competitors. “The Africa Eco Race feels like a worthy alternative to Dakar” says Bennie Migchelbrink. “It’s a challenging rally, packed with classic Dakar routes and long stages. At the same time, it’s more accessible, as riders are allowed to rejoin the rally after a dropout. And with its iconic finish at Lac Rose, it’s a truly unforgettable experience.”
The recent move of the rally to late January adds to its appeal, as it no longer overlaps with the festive season, making it better suited to family life. Additionally, the pre-race program has been shortened from four days to just one, making logistics much easier for participants.

Six riders, packed with experience and ambition
In 2026, Memo Tours will line up at the start of the Africa Eco Race with six motorcycle riders:
- Gerben Lieverdink (55) – A seasoned rider with experience in various South American rallies, including the Dakar. He has also competed in the Africa Eco Race before.
- Stephan Savelkouls (42) – A Memo Tours regular for over a decade, active in rallies across Greece and Morocco. He returns to the AER, this time joined by his younger brother.
- Lejon Fokkema (27) – Started rallying in Spain in 2020 and has since competed in multiple events with Memo Tours. The Africa Eco Race will be his first major long-distance rally.
- Kai Fröhlich (50) – A loyal German rider who has joined Memo Tours on numerous adventures across South America, Tunisia, and Morocco.
- Rob van Pelt Sr. (66) – A legendary Dutch figure in the rally world, with multiple Dakar entries — both on motorbikes and in cars. He completed his first Dakar in 1998.
- Robbert van Pelt Jr. (32) – Made headlines in 2013 as the youngest Dakar finisher ever at just 19 years old. He now returns to rallying with the trusted Memo Tours team.
This diverse mix of seasoned veterans and up-and-coming talents promises a strong Dutch presence at the Africa Eco Race 2026.

Looking Ahead
With this renewed focus on the Africa Eco Race, Memo Tours aims to reinvigorate Dutch participation in the rally. Their ambition is to once again have ten Dutch riders in future editions. For Bennie and Monique Migchelbrink, the Africa Eco Race represents a natural progression after decades of pioneering rallies across South America and Europe.
Alongside their Africa Eco Race plans, Memo Tours continues to offer a wide-ranging program, including rallies and raids in Greece, the Morocco Raid, and the popular Málaga–Barcelona adventure bike trip.
