Route Africa Eco Race 2026 pays tribute to classic African rally

The organisers of the Africa Eco Race have revealed the route for 2026. The upcoming edition promises more than ever to be a tribute to the classic African rally-raid, with a redesigned course that remains faithful to the adventurous spirit of the race. The route once again leads through Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, featuring several notable updates that aim to make this edition a true milestone.

Tanger becomes the new starting point

For the first time in the history of the Africa Eco Race, the city of Tanger has been selected as the location for administrative checks and technical scrutineering. This shifts the start of the rally further north, both logistically and symbolically. Shortly after, the official start will be marked by a spectacular prologue raced on the Atlantic Ocean beach. With the surf in the background, it will be clear from the first meters that this edition is about speed and commitment.

Morocco: new tracks, familiar spirit

Following the prologue, the Moroccan section unfolds with a blend of forgotten paths and newly selected terrain. The opening days deliver a breath of fresh air without betraying the rally’s DNA. The landscapes are varied, the navigation is challenging from the outset, and the pace is high. In short, a powerful start that will demand everything from both man and machine.

Mauritania: sand and survival instincts

After crossing into Mauritania, the rally begins to live up to its reputation. Endless sand plains, towering dunes, and heavy specials await, testing participants both physically and mentally. Two stages will be run as loops, influencing strategies and putting endurance to the test. Navigation becomes a game of millimetres where every mistake can carry heavy consequences.

Senegal: the final push to Lac Rose

In Senegal, an eleventh and final stage awaits, described as a tribute to the African landscape. Compact but intense, this stage through the savannah forms the final hurdle on the way to the iconic Lac Rose. Arriving at this legendary lake is still considered one of the most beautiful finishes in the world of rally-raid.

Modern and Historic classes unite again

As in previous years, the Africa Eco Race features both a modern and a historic class, the latter reserved for classic vehicles competing under their own set of regulations. Both categories can look forward to a rally that feels familiar yet fresh. For veterans, it’s a rediscovery of known sensations; for newcomers, an unforgettable first encounter with rally-raid in Africa.

The Africa Eco Race 2026 kicks off in January. It promises to be an edition that echoes the golden days of rallying, while ushering in a fresh breeze that secures the event’s future.
