Erik van Loon and Wouter Rosegaar have been performing well in recent rallies with their Can-Am Maverick R. When the car holds up, they are in the running for the win. They started the Saudi Baja strongly, securing a podium finish and a stage victory, and Erik wants to carry that form into Jordan for the second round of the FIA World Baja Cup.
Erik is eager to get back behind the wheel. “We’re in good shape. At the end of last year in Morocco, we won, and in Saudi Arabia, we were competing for the overall victory. However, technical issues on the first day meant we only finished third. We did win the final stage, so the speed is there. We want to take that with us to Jordan.”
This will be Erik’s second time competing in the Jordan Baja. “In 2021, I raced the rally in the Hilux and finished second. It’s one of the most beautiful events on the calendar. The landscapes are stunning, and the stages are incredibly varied. Now, we’re racing the Can-Am in the SSV class. We’re going to enjoy it and go all out for the win.”
The baja begins on Thursday, February 12, with a 13-kilometer prologue to determine the starting order for the first stage on Friday. The opening stage is a grueling 225-kilometer test, followed by a 195-kilometer second stage through the Wadi Rum desert on Saturday.
