Erik van Loon starts flawlessly and fast in Hail

The first round of the FIA World Cup Baja has kicked off in Hail. Erik van Loon and Wouter Rosegaar had a flawless and strong start to the rally. In the Can-Am Maverick, they were quick both in the prologue and during the first stage. Erik and Wouter opted for a controlled approach, and that decision paid off.

The rally began yesterday with a prologue. “That went great,” Erik said. “We finished second in our class and tenth overall. But the gaps were extremely small. We were just 30 seconds slower than the fastest car, so that was really good. It was a great lap to get back into the rhythm.”

Today, the first serious stage was on the schedule. “And what a stage it was. This one was truly amazing, just 260 kilometers of pure racing, like the Oirschotse Hei. A lot of sand, tricky terrain, and plenty of jumps. So we played it safe and took no risks. But we were still fast! We drove well, and Wouter navigated flawlessly. A great start to the rally!”

Tomorrow marks the final day of the Baja with a 160-kilometer stage. “We want to keep this momentum going. We’re on the podium right now, and the gaps are small, so we’re going all in.” Follow the last stage live via: https://media.iritrack.com/checkpoints/?ev=9167936cbbf6e4aa38cf6cc1389a1b31.
